Casino operator Station Casinos has now decided to keep two North Las Vegas properties shut down for an extended period of time. The company will ask the City Council in the region to approve licensing changes for the Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station. Both casinos closed back in March when the state ordered non-essential businesses to shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The casinos would like to move all licensing to non-operational and it last through June 4, 2021. The licensing that would be affected includes full liquor, non-restricted gaming liquor, and non-restricted gaming.
Uncertain Economic Conditions:
Station Casinos wants to keep the two venues closed as they are facing uncertain economic conditions. The casinos would remain closed until further notice and Station has no date set for reopening. With the closures, it would mean that popular spots like the Oyster Bar and Beaumont’s would no longer offer services at Texas Station. The Cabo Lounge and Venom Bar of Fiesta Rancho would also be affected.
Two additional casinos of Station Casinos, the Palms and Fiesta Henderson, remain closed currently. It is unclear if the company plans on reopening the facilities or might have similar closure plans.
Sizeable Layoffs:
The announcement of the closure plans comes just under two months after Station Casinos announced significant layoffs in the wake of the outbreak. In early May, the company confirmed that around 14,000 corporate and property staff would be affected by May 16th. Employees would have access to medical benefits through the company until the end of September.
Station Casinos tried to retain their entire team but now the uncertainty of the business environment has led to tough decisions. With no clear idea at the time on when casinos would reopen and what business levels would be, the company had to choose to layoff thousands.
