Central Alberta will soon welcome a new casino that is expected to boost the economy and quality of life in the area. Located between two cities, Ponoka and Wetaskiwin, just off the busy Queen Elizabeth 2 Highway, the new Bear Hills Casino & Travel Resort is slated to welcome visitors in spring 2024.

The casino is in its first phase of construction, which will see the creation of more than 80 part-time and full-time positions. The new casino will become one of the largest employers in the entire region. This is a great opportunity for locals from all of the industries since the casino’s capacities will have to be filled from scratch.
The preparation for opening has already begun, which means that employers are already looking for people who would fill key positions. It is expected that those positions will be filled by the end of March. Training of new employees is supposed to be finished in April.

Once the first phase of construction is finished, this tribal resort will include the casino with a modern lounge and performance stage, various quick-serve food options, public restrooms, and a Petro-Canada gas station, as well as a marketplace and washrooms.
Customers will be able to enjoy a range of popular casino products, including various gaming entertainment options, such as 200 slot machines and 10 thrilling table games. On top of that, the casino will feature live entertainment options, placed across 30.000 square feet.
The resort’s President & CEO, Gordon Rauscher, said: “The opening of the Bear Hills Casino this coming spring is a great achievement for the Louis Bull Tribe, and will also bring a significant amount of economic activity to the Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin regions.”
Once the casino is finished, it is expected that it will feature a huge event center, a modern hotel, a cultural center, as well as various restaurants that will be able to satisfy the needs of even the pickiest customers.
The opening is expected to be in May this year.
The Louis Bull Tribe is a part of the Cree Nations, the largest group of First Nations that live in Canada. It belongs to the Four Nations of Maskwacis.
The tribe currently has about 2,380 members, and its government consists of a Chief and six Council members. They possess 3,127 hectares of tribal land. Bear Hills Casino & Travel Resort is owned and operated by the tribe.
