Pennsylvania gaming revenue up 24.1 percent from February 2021; declines from January

In Pennsylvania, combined total revenue during February 2022, from all forms of gaming, including fantasy contests, totaled $375.7 million, a 24.1 percent monthly year-over-year increase. However, it is a drop from the $393.1 million generated the month prior, and it is the third consecutive month gaming revenue in the Commonwealth has declined since hitting a monthly high of $432.5 million in November 2021.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) is responsible for regulating the following sources of gaming revenue: slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs).

Brick-and-mortars:

Leading all land-based casinos in “The Keystone State” for the month of February 2022 was Hollywood Casino at Penn National Grantville, with the thoroughbred horse racing track and casino reporting $59.5 million in revenue, a 42.1 percent increase from the same time last year. Next in line is Greenwood Racing Inc.’s Parx Casino in Philadelphia, with $53.6 million, followed by Wind Creek Hospitality‘s Wind Creek Bethlehem, which generated $42.9 million.

February revenue from slot machines was $194.7 million, with Parx Casino bringing in the most at $33.9 million compared to Wind Creek Bethlehem’s $22.3 milllion and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh’s $21.5 million. The trio of brick-and-mortars rounded out the state’s top three slot-revenue generators.

After slot machines, revenue from table games came in second with $74.4 million, and in third was revenue from iGaming slots at $68.1 million, according to the PGCB report.

In the category of iGaming revenue, Hollywood Casino at Penn National was on top, with a total of $42.7 million, while generating significantly less was Rivers Casino Philadelphia at $24.5 million and in King of Prussia, Valley Forge Casino Resort brought in $18.5 million.

Meanwhile, in February, the total handle for sports betting in the Commonwealth was $597.1 million. That’s a revenue loss of $442,847. The top three earners in the state were Valley Forge Casino Resort, with a handle of $215 million, followed by Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands with $141.5 million and Hollywood Casino Morgantown at $72.9 million.

In February, Valley Forge’s sports betting revenue was nearly $1.6 million to Hollywood Casino at Penn National’s $1.1 million total and Parx Casino’s $819,918.

A total of six casinos in Pennsylvania reported negative sports-betting revenue for February 2022, including the two biggest losers, Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, with its reported loss of $3.3 million and Hollywood Casino Morgantown at -$1.5 million.

The other four in the negative for the month are Live! Casino Philadelphia at -$417,139, Harrah’s Philadelphia, with a negative $309,526, Wind Creek Bethlehem at -$119,149 and Hollywood Casino York with -$129,470.
