The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has issued licenses to three new operators to launch their iGaming products in the market of this Canadian province.
AGCO awarded operating licenses to Ligtip Limited, Ellipse Entertainment Limited, and Delta iGaming Inc to ensure that their operations in Ontario are in line with regulatory requirements in the jurisdiction.
Licensed operators:
Ligtip is specialized in sports betting and live betting operations and the new license will provide the Malta-based company to go live with its TonyBet brand in the province. Ellipse Entertainment, the UK-headquartered casino operator, secured approval to present its High Flyer Casino brand in the market.
Likewise, the new license awarded to Delta iGaming Corporation will facilitate the new-market launch of the company’s Delta Bingo and Gaming brand in this Canadian province.
The three new licenses awarded by AGCO in the first week of December follow the three licenses awarded to the operators VideoSlots, NetBet, and Coolbear (Coolbet) in November.
License terms:
The AGCO’s primary regulatory objective is to ensure that all casino gaming is operated within the law and in the broader public interest. It undertakes a number of key activities to ensure regulatory compliance of sports betting, casino, and lottery operators in the Ontario jurisdiction.
Under the terms of the license, Ligtip Limited, Ellipse Entertainment Limited, and Delta iGaming Inc will have its Ontario operations eligible for AGCO’s regulatory assessments, as well as slot machines and gaming machines testing, approving and monitoring procedures. The commission will have the right to inspect, audit and monitor casino for compliance with its regulation and licence/registration conditions, to name the few.
AGCO regulatory frame:
Ontario’s private iGaming market launched on April 4th, 2022. iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of AGCO, is responsible for conducting and managing the private iGaming market. The AGCO’s iGaming regulatory framework aims to achieve the objectives of providing consumer choice, ensuring player protection, and supporting the growth of the legal market.
In October, AGCO updated its standards to complete the transition period for unregulated operators and suppliers. It also amended standards for live dealer games to fit in the regulatory frame.
Careful selection:
The commission carefully considers each license application. Earlier this month, AGCO announced that it would be prohibiting operators in Ontario from accepting wagers on UFC events due to betting integrity concerns to demonstrate its custom approach to each of casino operations and the entities involved.
Such a serious approach is in line with the market volume, for Q2 (Q3) iGaming Ontario’s report published in October showed the sum of $6.04billion in total wagering, roughly$2 billion more than the preceding quarter.
