Yesterday, event #19 of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) took place, with 62 players competing in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship. The event offered over $578,000 in total prize money with Anthony Zinno able to outlast the field and earn this third WSOP gold bracelet with the win. Zinno faced stiff competition, including Phil Hellmuth, a pro that was hoping to earn his 16th bracelet during the tournament.
Details of the Event
When the final day started, everyone was watching Hellmuth. It appeared as though the poker pro might be able to extend his record-lead of WSOP gold bracelet wins. As final table action got underway, Jason Gola was the first to be eliminated from the competition. Next was Stephen Chidwick then Jack McClelland.
Hellmuth was the chip lead going into the final table, but it was not meant to be that he would win. Hellmuth would exit in fourth after failing to maintain the chip lead. Once he was the short stack, the pro went up against Jose Paz-Gutierrez and lost to deuces.
Unfortunately for Paz-Gutierrez, he would be the next to fall at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. He fell against James Chen, after losing most of his stack to the poker pro. At this point, Zinno has a nice lead, and he was up three to one in chips. His stack was nice, despite having not eliminated a single-player once heads-up began.
Chen was not ready to give up easily, and he would gain the chip lead for a short moment in time. However, it was not going to take long before Zinno pulled ahead once and again and he continued to chip away at his opponent’s stack. It would take two hours of heads-up play before Zinno would claim the win.
Final Table Results of Event #19 the Seven Card Stud Championship:
First Place Anthony Zinno $182,872
Second Place James Chen $113,021
Third Place Jose Paz-Guiterrez $77,227
Fourth Place Phil Hellmuth $54,730
Fifth Place Jack McClelland $40,284
Sixth Place Stephen Chidwick $30,842
Seventh Place Jason Gola $24,601
